Schimmel Grand Piano SP182
FINISH: High-polished Bubinga Wood
This conservatory-quality Schimmel grand piano was hand-crafted and built in Germany in 1997. The case of the piano is finished in high-polished Bubinga (African Rosewood). Since the 18th Century, woodworkers have prized Bubinga for its rich color and fantastic figure. French Renaissance furniture makers dubbed it “bois de rose d’Afrique” or “African Rosewood” and frequently incorporated it into high-end pieces for their wealthy patrons.
The finish on this piano is exquisite with its rich reddish-brown finish, stylish gold and brass accents throughout, and even a crest with gold leaf on the plate. The Schimmel Diamond Series pianos feature upgrades to the standard models. Most noticeable are the gold-colored plate (instead of a copper color), double-locking casters not featured on standard models, a slightly different shape to the legs with different ferrules, and a brass accent at the joint. The plate of the piano has also been personally signed by Nikalaus and Viola Schimmel.
Besides being a showpiece, this piano has the tone and touch to match. The sound is typical of high-end German engineered pianos; the quality and workmanship is superb, with beautiful clarity without being overly bright, and it boasts an action preferred by many professional performers. This instrument produces a beautiful full, rich tone and at 6’ in length, it is particularly suited for medium to large spaces. It would be a perfect choice for any fine home or parlor. A comparable new Schimmel would list for over $60K. This piano has been exceptionally well maintained comes with a matching artist bench.
